Puppy Selection Process

The Setareh Yorkies Puppy Selection Process

At Setareh Yorkies, we believe in honoring both our puppies and our families. That’s why we wait until our puppies have completed their Badass Breeder (BAB) Temperament Evaluations at 8 weeks (Day 60) before allowing families to choose.

We know waiting can feel hard—but this extra time is what ensures that you’re matched with the right puppy for your home and lifestyle. It’s not about choosing the “cutest” baby at two weeks old—it’s about choosing the puppy who will thrive in your family for years to come.

How the Process Works

  1. Day 60 Evaluations

Each puppy is individually evaluated and filmed (5–12 minutes per puppy). We provide:

    • Video recordings of the temperament tests

    • Scorecards with detailed explanations

    • Breeder notes and insights

    • Vet clearance information

    • Genetic testing results (when applicable)

  2. Sharing Results

Families on the Litter List receive the videos and evaluation results via email. You’ll have 24 hours to review, discuss, and start narrowing down which puppies may be the best fit.

  3. Selection Day (Saturday after Day 60)

Families choose in order of the Litter List. Each family receives a 30-minute appointment (in person, Zoom, or phone) to discuss options and make their choice.

    • Example: If Family A is looking for a tenderhearted puppy, we’ll help guide them toward the pups who best fit those needs, instead of a high-drive puppy that might not match their energy level.

  4. Going Home

Puppies go home at 10 weeks of age, giving them extra time for socialization, desensitization, and training within our program. Before they leave, we love to take “Gotcha Day” photos with their new families (optional for social media).

Staying Involved While You Wait

We know waiting to choose can feel tough—so we make sure you’re part of the journey from birth to go-home day! Each family receives:

  • A private webpage for your litter

  • Curriculum work videos showing developmental progress

  • A private Flickr album (300–500 photos in 8 weeks!)

  • Evaluation video + scorecard before selection

  • Vet clearance info before selection

This way, you feel connected every step of the way.

FAQ’S

How do I choose my puppy?

Selections are made in order of deposits received. Families may choose in person or virtually. We encourage in-person whenever possible, but virtual selection works beautifully with the video evaluations.

Do you offer “Pick of the Litter”?

We don’t use “pick of the litter” language—every puppy is carefully bred and raised to be top quality, and all go home on a spay/neuter contract.

  • We reserve the right to hold back one puppy (male or female) to advance our program.

  • Otherwise, choices are made in the order deposits were received.

  • We do not accept extra payment to “jump the line”—we honor our list fairly.

What if I don’t want the “last pick”

Please don’t worry—there is no “bad” puppy. Every puppy in our program is raised with the same care, testing, and attention. Families often choose for very personal reasons (“she cuddled me first” or “he ran to my lap”), but the remaining puppies are just as wonderful.

I like to say: Your pup is the best pup. Once your puppy is in your home, bonded to you, and growing with your training, you’ll know you got the perfect one.

What if no puppy fits my needs?

If, during your 30-minute selection, you feel none of the puppies are the right match, we’ll move your name to our Master List for a future litter. We want every placement to be the right one—for both the family and the puppy.

Our Philosophy

We don’t believe in rushing choices or letting emotions alone make the decision (“that one licked me!”). Yorkies are a happy, people-loving breed, and they’ll bond with you no matter which one you choose. Our role is to help guide you toward the puppy that best fits your home, lifestyle, and heart—so you and your pup can grow together in joy.

✨ At Setareh Yorkies, we’re not just placing puppies—we’re building lifelong matches.
